Online crop layouts

Here's what I created during the online crop at MSS this weekend:



This one was for the Early Bird Challenge to use staples, chipboard and the colour red on your layout.




I created this layout for Marcy's Not Average Challenge (create a layout using photos other than 4x6".)




This was for the Copycat Challenge to lift someone from the gallery. I lifted Marcy's Stone Soup layout.




This one was for the Half & Half Challenge (to only use half of the page) and the Clone Challenge (to use 3+ different papers in the same style-- I used three polka-dots).




This one was for Liz's ad inspiration.




This one was for Marcy's challenge to use shaped paper, two photos and felt on your layout. I made the shaped paper by cutting the My Mind's Eye pp into a circle (I traced it with a dinner plate) and then I punched fory-seven 3/4" circles out and adhered them to the back of the circle to make a scalloped edge. I covered the back with another pp circle (to use for another layout later) and sewed them both in place.

Well, that's what I've made, this weekend. So far. ;)

A mini-book project

I made this project for a bridal shower that I co-hosted in July. It worked really well for a shower, but I think this mini-book could totally be adapted for other topics, too.

This is the cover.

To make the mini-book, I cut two sheets of Hambly clear heavy overlay into 8 6x6" squares.
I cut coordinating patterned paper into 6x3" pieces and sewed them to the bottom of each piece of Hambly on the front and the back to make pockets on each page.
Then I bound it together with a Bind it All.

On the front page, I made a card that everyone who contributed to the group gifts signed, and slipped it into the front pocket.

On the inside pages (there were seven double spreads, total), I made four tags for each page. I used cardstock, pp, ribbon, flowers, buttons, etc to decorate them.

The idea was that at the shower, each guest received a tag on which they wrote either a word of encouragement, a Bible verse or some advice for the bride. Then when they were done, I collected them, put them back in the book and presented it to the bride.

Online Crop

There's an online crop at My Scrap Shoppe this weekend!! You can check out the challenges here.

I'm posting a couple of challenges for the crop.

They are:

1. Use a quote on your layout.


(I saw this quote in the latest issue of Simple Scrapbooks and knew I had to use it on a page for my boys.)

2. Use product from 5 or more different manufacturers on a page.


This layout was inspired by sketch #63 at Sketch This. The sketch used three photos, but I thought I'd just adapt it to two photos. Then I noticed that that was exactly was sketch #64 was! Too funny!

Project 366, week 35

Here are my photos of the day for the past week.

I should warn you, thought, at first glance, it looks like we've experienced some major fluctuations in the weather in some of the pictures...


Tuesday, August 26th: My friend, Susan (the birthday girl!!), and her kids came over and spent the day with us.


Wednesday, August 28th: Bundled up in our hoodies, winter jackets, tuques and mittens, under sleeping bags... watching a movie under the stars. We went to Winkler and set up our lawn chairs to enjoy the show (Horton Hears a Who.) It was really, really cold out, but we were prepared and nice & toasty warm (I learned from last year. ;) )


Thursday, August 28th: A picture of my best, best girl.


Friday, August 29th: On what I thought would be our last trip to the beach for the year, I got the kids to pose in front of this building for a picture. I love it so much!! (It's my new desktop image on my computer.)

Sigh. We had such a great summer. It's hard to see it go. :(


Saturday, August 30th: We went to my MIL's for a wiener roast in the evening and got a tour of her garden. Love how tall the corn is behind Sage and Jonah!


Sunday, August 31st: Yes, we're ice skating. It was really hot on Sunday (over 30 degrees Celsius), so we went to the beach for a couple of hours. Then, our church had booked the ice rink for an hour and half, so we went skating to cool off! Only in Canada! LOL! It was so funny to hear the moms say things afterwards to their kids, like :"Take off your jacket, we're going outside." Or, "No, you don't need to wear your mittens, we're leaving." Too funny! (After the skating, we met at a friend's house for a wiener roast and the kids went swimming! Too strange a day! )


Monday, September 1st: Our friends, Pam & Walter, at their daughter, Amanda's, wedding. I love how happy they look in this picture!

Some more layouts...

I can't believe that today is September 1st!! I'm so sad to the the summer end-- I think it was the best summer we've ever had. Seriously.

The boys start back to school on Wednesday afternoon. Eek! Too soon, too soon.

We'll have to make the most of the next two days, I guess...

Here are the layouts that I created with the September kit at My Scrap Shoppe. It has a great travel theme, which I liked. However, we don't travel very much so I got creative with some of the pages.

New toys

For my birthday, my kids bought me a 2" scalloped circle punch. I thought that I'd be able to use it with my Creative Memories circle cutters. But, the CM cutters cut a 1.5" circle and a 2" circle, not a 1.75" circle. So I ordered a 1.75" circle punch from Stampin' Up! and Anne dropped it off for me on Friday.

So, I've been playing with my new punches. :)

I made this card for Patter's scripture challenge.



And this layout, using Liz's sketch #23:


(I cut a piece of the MM pp out from behind the scalloped cardstock to make the card.)



And then I lifted myself and made this layout, using the new SU! pp that Anne also dropped off for me. ;)







I saw this quote in the Sept/Oct 2008 issue of Simple Scrapbooks and knew it would be great on a page for my boys. (Again, using the new SU! pp.)







Such a great feeling to get a bunch of layouts done. And so fun to have some new tools to play with as well.

Project 366, week 34

Here are my photos of the day for the past week:


Tuesday, August 19th: The kids, plus Austin's best friend, Soren, walking together to five day club.


Wednesday, August 20th: We went to Susan's for a visit and the kids pulled out the slip and slide.


Thursday, August 21st: A picture of the Corn & Apple set up.


Friday, August 22nd: Sage on the merry-go-round. She was bound and determined to ride on the bunny. We paid for her ticket, but someone else was already on the bunny (can you believe it??), so we asked for the ticket back and waited at the front of the line for the next turn.


Saturday, August 23rd: Watching the parade.


Sunday, August 24th: Jonah, on the pony rides. That's Sage behind him, in brown, riding on the pony named Sage!


Monday, August 25th: Soccer practice. Austin's team is called the Black Dragons (his teammates got to choose the name!)

Highlights from the C&A

Here are some of my favourite pictures for the Corn & Apple Festival this past weekend.

Day 1 (Friday):

Val & I worked in our church's booth selling cheesecake and mudpie that evening. Afterwards, we walked around and I talked her into riding on the new ferris wheel with me.

I didn't get a lot of pictures this day (my battery was dying and Cameron wanted to take it to the Show & Shine at the park.) But I did get this one of my girl trying to do "tricks" (Look, Ma! no hands!) on the pony ride.

All in all, a great weekend to be sure.
