Five for Friday

1. Guess who got his first job?

Austin has been applying for jobs since May.
He had a couple of interviews last week (finally!), but the one place
called to say he wasn't chosen to go to the next round
(it's fun how they're making getting a job sound like a game show)
& he hadn't heard back from the other job yet.
Then, on Sunday, we went out for lunch to the Morden Motor Inn
and he asked if they were hiring.
He left his name and number and returned within a half an hour with his resume.
They called on Wednesday to schedule an interview with him at 4pm.
He called me at 4:10 to tell me that they'd offered him the job!
He's going to be a dishwasher, with the possibility of learning
how to cook in the near future!
I'm so excited for him!
I've been praying for a job for him so much --
& I'm so thankful that God has answered my prayers!

2.  Jonah had a great week at camp last week.

I was so excited to see him (& I think he'd missed me, too!)
I was so happy to hear that he'd tried lots of new things throughout the week.
And watching him sing with all of the kids at their wind-up made me cry
(which of course made him tease me, but oh well.....)

3. We've enjoyed some fun things this past week....

I took the kids to see the Minions movie at the theatre on Saturday,
followed by supper at Charlie B's.
We've been strawberry picking three times this week
and to the beach every day for Sage's swimming lessons.
I love summer!

4. I made a fun purchase this week:

I had enough credit at Pretty Pink Posh from when I designed for them
to get this set of Zig Clean Colour Markers!
I can't wait for them to arrive!

5. And lastly, I have a card to share for the new challenge

I was totally inspired by this fabulous card by Amy Sheffer:

I love how she used the Blue Skies Cover Plate with the Petite Places images --
which seemed fitting, as it was one of her cards with the lighthouses
last month that encouraged me to buy this cover plate!

Here's my card:

I used some aqua mist cardstock as my base.
I had fun stamping the images from Petite Places: Sweet Shoppe, as
well as the tree from City Scene.

I did some ink blending for my grass & street,  and stamped the "sweet" from
PP: Sweet Shoppe and the "birthday wishes" from KIS: Belated Birthday.
Some baker's twine finishes it off.

CAS(E) This Sketch #132

Today, I have a card to share that I made for

I love how only part of the tree is included on the sketch,
so I wanted to incorporate only part of an image.
I chose to use my PTI Pedal Pusher set to make my card.

CAS(E) This Sketch 132 Leigh Penner @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics #cards

I diecut the frame from some Bazzill Basics Smoothies: Citron cardstock.
I added the banner from Winnie & Walter's The Big, the Bold and Extras stamp set
which I trimmed out by hand.
The sentiment on the banner is from PTI's KIS: Belated Birthday,
but I cut off the belated.

Visit CAS(E) this Sketch to see the rest of the DT's takes on the sketch
and to play along, if you'd like.
You have until Thursday, July 23rd to link up your card.

Oh, and before you go, I have a banner that's being featured on the Bazzill Basics Blog today.

CREATE Magazine -- take two

As I mentioned in this post, the Bazzill Basics Design Team were featured in the

We were each asked to design a card and layouts using the excellent sketches
created by Allison Davis.
In the magazine, which you can download for free here,  I have a layout
using the single page sketch, as well as a card.

However, I also made a layout using the two page sketch, which
I'd like to share with you today.

CREATE Magazine -- take two Leigh Penner @leigh148 @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics #scrapbookinglayout

I used some Bazzill Basics cardstock (CS White, Bling: Infatuation, Fourz: Springtime)
to scrapbook the photos I took of Sage & my fairy garden.

CREATE Magazine -- take two Leigh Penner @leigh148 @bazzillbasics #bazzillbasics #scrapbookinglayout

I used a Pretty Pink Posh scalloped border die to diecut my Bling: Infatuation cardstock
and some Quickutz Cotton Candy & PTI Book Print alphabet dies for my title.

I diecut and stamped the flowers using PTI's Brushed Blooms.

On the second page, I printed my photos as 3x4 and used the same scallops border die.

Once again, I added some Brushed Blooms flowers.

I used a PTI Simply Framed die to diecut my journaling.

I also made a coordinating card using the card sketch and some of the same products.

CAS(E) This Sketch #131 -- take two

I have another card to share that I made for

I found this piece of Pink Paislee Bella Rouge patterned paper
in my stash and immediately thought of this sketch.
Here's my card:

I used some Bazzill Basics cardstock: Classic Smooth White & Monochromatic: Petalsoft
I added a PTI Keep It Simple Frame in which I stamped my sentiment
(from PTI's Life is Beautiful).
A couple of buttons finish it off.

Four cards to share

Surprisingly, I haven't been able to spend a lot of time in my craft area so far this summer!
But, with the temperatures being way too hot to spend time outside this afternoon,
I managed to sneak down there and make a few cards.

The first one is for this week's Make It Monday at Papertrey Ink:

Four cards to share Leigh Penner @leigh148 #cards

I decided to use PTI's Lovely Layers stamp set to create my border.
I also stamped the larger image on my American Crafts patterned paper background.
Over that, I stamped my sentiment from Graceful Greetings.
A few enamel dots finish it off.

And, I also have three cards to share for Muse Challenge: #123
where I was inspired by this adorable card by Joan Bardee:

I love those sweet cherries on that plaid background and decided to use the cherries
from PTI's Scent-imentals stamp set for my card:

I diecut my Echo Park patterned paper using Mama Elephant's Femme Frames scalloped
die & stamped my sentiment using Reverse Confetti's God is Good stamp set.

I loved this card so much, that I decided to make a couple more similar to it,
using the peach and watermelon images from Scent-imentals.

For these two, I used some Heidi Swapp patterned paper as my background.

Sketch for You To Try #26

Today, I have a card to share for Reverse Confetti Sketch for You to Try #26:

Here's my card...

I used some Heidi Swapp patterned paper as my mat for my card.
I used it to diecut the banners (using Stitched Flag Trio Confetti Cuts)

For my sentiment I stamped the sweet (from Fancy Words),
the birthday (from The Buzz),
and the wishes (from Circle Sentiments)
in versamark onto a strip of black cardstock and
heat embossed it in white.
A trio of My Mind's Eye enamel dots finishes it off.

Be sure to head on over to the Reverse Confetti blog to see
the other designers' takes on the sketch and to play along, if you'd like.

Five for Friday

1. Well, summer is in full swing!
We returned to the beach on Sunday evening for a photo shoot of the kids.

I was pleased with the great shots that I got!

They were laughing so hard when we took these!
Who know jumping up in the air at the same time could be so challenging?

2. Here's a close up of Jonah:

We dropped him off at camp for the week at Monday.
He's at paint ball camp with his best friend this week & I've been missing him!

I'm looking forward to picking him up this evening!

3. Here's Austin:

He's been volunteering at Kids Act this week
-- it's a drama camp for kids.
He's also looking for a summer job and had two interviews this week.
He didn't get the one and we're still waiting to hear back from the other place
(the job is a dishwasher). I'm praying he gets it, but that, if so, they'll be
understanding of the time he'll need off for choir and drama in the fall.

4. And here's my best girl, Sage.

She & I have been pretty much inseparable this week (I think she's loving having me all to herself!)
We've gone strawberry picking (where we stood in line for 2.5 hours to get onto the field! Crazy!), swimming at the pool for our church's pool night,
to the beach every afternoon for her swimming lessons,
taekwondo twice a week & we had a girl's movie night on Wednesday,
where we ate popcorn & watched Ever After.

She's just so fun!

5. I have a pair of baby cards to share that I made using some Reverse Confetti  products.

I made them the same way.
I just changed up the patterned paper and the colours of the ink and buttons.

For my girl version, I used some Crate Paper patterned paper.
I diecut the scalloped circle using the largest die from Circles 'n Scallops Confetti Cuts
from some rustic white cardstock.
Before stamping, I used the smooshing technique to put some berry sorbet
ink onto my diecut and heated it with my heat tool.

I stamped the monkey from Monkey Business in versafine onyx black ink.
Then, I used some washi tape to mask the "precious" from the Circle Sentiments
stamp so it would give the little monkey something to stand on.
Some buttons and twine finish it off.

For the boy version, I used some American Crafts patterned paper.

I'm linking this up to this week's Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Furry Friends.
