Some Mother's Day stuff...

I wanted to share what I made for Mother's Day this year.

Last week, when we were in the city, Sage and I saw some "fairy houses" at the scrapbooking store and thought they be fun to make. Of course, then I forgot about them when I got home.

However, then I saw this on Nichole Heady's blog this week and decided that these would be perfect to make for the "moms" in our lives: my mom, Cam's mom, Dale's mom and Sally. So, Sage and I printed out the template and tried our hands at making some.

Here's the one we made for Sally:


The "fairy houses" had punched circles of patterned paper covering the roof, so we did that for three of them. And instead of filling them with birdseed, we decided to fill them with Hershey's kisses instead. Supplies: PTI cardstock and sentiment stamp, SU! bird stamp, MME & OA patterned paper.



For my mom, we went with a Pink Paislee patterned paper roof instead:




For my mom's gift, I have also been making her some greeting cards to give away. I had eight ready this afternoon and then decided to make two more:


I used PTI cardstock, woodgrain impression plate, label stamp and sentiment stamp and a SU! flower stamp and ink.


This card was a fourth attempt at the Papertrey Ink Make it Monday challenge: Impression Plate Tricks #2. I used PTI cardstock, woodgrain impression plate, Turning a New Leaf die and stamps, Mat Stack #4 label stamp and sentiment.

I put the ten cards (along with ten envelopes) in a PTI stamp package and changed up the stamp title:


And this is what I'll give my mom tomorrow:

Five for Friday

1. I worked four days this week, which is a good thing! I'm so thankful for my job! Today I'm subbing phys. ed, which isn't my favourite (okay, it's my least favourite to sub), but I have two classes in the classroom. We're suppose to go outside and play soccer this afternoon, so I'm hoping for nice, warm sunny weather for that. ;)

2. I have some exciting news to share... I noticed that on my friend, Elizabeth's blog, a link for a new challenge site Scrapping Everyday Miracles, which looked pretty cool. When I went to check it out, I noticed that they were having a DT call. I`d really enjoyed being on a DT for a challenge site in the past, so I thought I`d apply. Well, the next morning, I had an email in my inbox from Nicole Brenna, asking me to join their team!


I`m so excited! I love the cool look of the site, as well as the fact that they post challenges that encourage you to document how you`re seeing God in the everyday little things of your life. And then they combine this with scrapbooking technique challenges as well. I think it`s going to be a good time! And the bonus: I get to be on a DT with my friend, Elizabeth, again!

3. I posted this layout for the MSS May DT challenge: Take 5. We were suppose to use our five latest scrappy purchases on a layout. Here's what I made, using one of the sketches from KP's Sketchbook 3 class:

4. I posted a Spring Sketch on the MSS blog today. The sketch is from Stuck?! Sketches (March 15th) and here's the layout I made with it:


I used AC cardstock, MME patterned paper, brads, alphas & key (I love that key!) and PTI felt, stamps and dies.

And I tucked my journaling behind the patterned paper.



5. Austin & Jonah performed at their piano recital last night. They both did very well, although Austin commented on how few boys there were there (just him, Jonah and another boy-- the rest were girls. They`ve been practising a duet for months and finally performed it (& did a pretty good job!) at the recital, with the promise that I would never make them play it again. Ever. I think they`re happy to be done with it. ;)

A third attempt...

at the Papertrey Ink Make it Monday challenge: Impression Plate Tricks #2.



I used the PTI woodgrain impression plate again, along with the PTI Mat Stack's #5 die. The cardstock is PTI berry sorbet and ripe avacado. The circle & floral stamps are from the Tag-Its #2. The greeting is from Communique sentiments.

A second attempt...

at the Papertrey Ink Make it Monday challenge: Impression Plate Tricks #2.



I used the PTI woodgrain impression plate again, along with the PTI Mat Stack's #1 die and stamp. The cardstock is PTI raspberry fizz and the greeting & floral stamps are from the Tag-Its #2.

Some cards to share

I just wanted to share some cards I made this week.


This first one was made with the scraps from this layout: Imaginisce patterned paper, PTI cardstock (raspberry fizz & ocean tides), my PTI Mat Stack #5 die and PTI stamps from Think Big Favorites #3 & Flower Fusion #3. I don't remember who made the little jewels I put in the centre of the flowers.



I got some happy mail yesterday afternoon from Simon Says Stamp, which included some VersaMagic Ink in Aquatic Splash & some Basic Grey Hero Arts stamps. I used them both on this card, along with some PTI cardstock (aqua mist), buttons and sentiment from the Communique Sentiments stamp set. The border punch I used is from SU!

And this last card, I made for the Papertrey Ink Make it Monday challenge: Impression Plate Tricks #2. Erin showed us how to use a die with our impression plates to make an area that isn't impressed. I decided to use my new Sunshine Impression Plate and Simple Circles die to try it out:



I used PTI cardstock (Hawaiian shores), the Sunshine Impression plate, the Simple Circles die and stamps and a sentiment stamp from the Boy Basics: Game On set.

Scrapping Everyday Miracles is an inspiration challenge blog... they want to encourage you to look at what God is doing in your life and scrap about it. Each challenge will not only cause people to focus on those little things but will always have a scrap twist-- getting people to try the newest and funnest scrapbooking techniques and products. They are going to have a lot of FUN and in the process focus on God's everyday miracles!

It looks like a really cool site and I'm looking forward to seeing what challenges they'll have in store for us. :)

Premier Championships 2011

On Saturday morning, we drove to Winnipeg to compete in the 2011 Premier Championship tournament. Here's a recap of our day...

The day started at 9am for me with an officials meeting. I had volunteered to score keep, time keep and corner judge-- just basically willing to help out wherever they need me.

After singing O Canada and our opening ceremonies, we started with our patterns competition.



I was in one of the first groups to compete. I ended up coming in second place and getting a silver medal.

She did a great job and also ended up winning a silver medal!







Austin also did well with his patterns, but didn't end up getting a medal:





Jonah also did great with his patterns. He was the lowest ranking competitor in his group and competed against a blue belt.





He also won a silver medal.



It was a silver medal day! ;)



Next, we moved onto the board breaking competitions.



Greg had an amazing combination for breaking-- it was very cool!

I didn't do so well in my breaking. I'd had a good combination (back spin kick followed by a jump front snap kick) and hit both boards well and on target, but unfortunately neither of them broke.

I think Austin was a little nervous about breaking, as he hadn't had a lot of success in practice.



But he broke his first board with an axe kick. So proud of him!



Then, we started with the sparring competitions.

Sage did really well in her sparring. It was her first time competing in sparring at a tournament and she did a great job with scoring points. I got to be her coach for her match, which was cool.



And judging by her smile after her match, she was happy with how she did...



But when she found out she didn't win a medal, there were some tears. (My pep talk included mentionning that we were the same: we'd both won a silver medal in patterns but then didn't win a medal in the other event we'd competed in. I think this helped.)



Because of the rainy weather, Cameron was able to come (if it was nice out, he would have been busy at the farm.) He took the majority of the pictures and did a great job!

After Sage's match, I got the opportunity to do some corner judging for a few sparring matches, which was cool. (This photo was taken by Jonah, as were the rest of the photos in this post.)



Austin competed in the sparring and did quite well. I actually was one of the corner judges for his matches (& that's where you discover how "fair" you actually are, when you have to judge your child. I'm pleased to note that I am indeed fair. ;) )

His coach for his matches was Kelsey Wiebe, an intentional gold medalist for sparring.



All in all, a great day!

Right now

With our tae kwon do tournament in Winnipeg on Saturday and a crazy busy day yesterday (church, Sunday school, a potluck lunch for people (& their families) who've been to D.R.Congo, the Morden Festival of the Arts highlights concert (Austin, Jonah & Sage all got awards!)and supper out at friends'), I didn't get a lot of time to scrap along with the MSS online crop, but I did manage to get a couple of layouts done.

This one was for Flo's challenge to scrap yourself & things you love right now:


(I apologize for the bad picture of my layout. I seriously tried over 20 times to get a better image, but to no avail.)
I used Papertrey Ink cardstock, Mat Stack 5 die and stamp (the little label stamp at the bottom with the date is from the Mat Stack 4 set), my Quickutz Cotton Candy alpha dies and Imaginisce patterned paper.

And this one was for Flo's royalty challenge (to use the colour purple) and Marcy's challenge to use twine. I also used Kelly Purkey's Sketchbook 3, Day 12 sketch for this one:


I used My Mind's Eye patterned paper, my Papertrey Ink Mat Stack 4 die, Fancy Flourishes stamp set, buttons and twine.

A few "Grunge Me" cards....

... that I made for my kids last night to encourage them for today's taekwondo tournament. I decided to use my new PTI stamp sets: Grunge Me and Boy Basics: Game On. When I ordered the sets, I was really hoping they'd arrive before the tournament because I thought the Game On sentiment would be so perfect. So, I was one happy girl when the parcel arrived on Wednesday.

This first one I made for Sage:



I decided to pair the Grunge Me set with a Hero Arts clings background stamp and some softer "girly" colours.



This one was for Jonah. It's a CASE of one of Nichole Heady's cards-- I think the one that originally sold me on the stamp set.



And this last one is for Austin. I tried the challenge for this week's Make-it-Monday at Papertrey Ink. I actually messed up, so I decided to extend the borders at each corner, which I think turned out okay.
