Kindergarten field trip #2

Yesterday, I got to go along with Jonah's class to Grandma's miniature farm in Manitou. The 35 minute ride there went by really quickly, as we (the parent volunteers) were asked to fill out questionnaires for the kids to be put in their files as a time capsule, to be opened when they graduate from high school. (Love this idea!)

Some of the answers made me smile-- like the little boy who told me that when he's older, he's going to be a rock star. And Jonah's answer to the best thing about him: his friends. :)

At the farm, we got a little lesson on life back in Grandma's grandma's day-- so glad I didn't live then! SO much work!!

Then a tour of her farm animals. I was impressed with the variety of animals she had-- some were quite exotic, coming from Asia and South America.

Jonah loved petting the animals-- he's my little farm boy for sure.

This is a chinchilla. She put a container of dust in its cage and it rolled around in it to clean itself.

Jonah fell in love with these goats. He named the little one on the left "Eater" and the one on the right "Chomper" and loved feeding them grass.

These goats, he named "Furry" & "Skinny."

Another picture of Eater.

A baby turkey.

Some baby ducks that were a day old.

When the tour was done and the kids could play, Jonah went back and fed Eater and Chomper for a long time. I love that he had such a great time and enjoyed himself so much. It was so wonderful to get to go along and experience that with him. :)

And then the icing on the cake, was this...

I kept trying to take a picture of him. "Come on, Jonah. Smile. Please? Just look at the camera and smile, please?"

Him: "Not until you say the magic word."

Me: "I said please."

Him: "No, the magic word is "eater"."

Me: "Eater."

And I got this:

Project 366, week 21

Here are my photos for the past week:

Tuesday, May 20th: Sage, working hard on her craft at Stay & Play.

Wednesday, May 21st: A photo from Jonah's trip to the museum.

Thursday, May 22nd: I love how a cardboard box can bring so much pleasure. :)

Friday: May 23rd: A stray tree that I found among my rose bushes. It was blooming with such pretty flowers that I decided to let it stay. (Its friend, who was not in as good of a location, however, did not meet a such a fortunate fate. It became a bouquet on my diningroom table & is presently featured in my header.) ;)

Saturday, May 24th: My nephew, Luke, and Austin, taking a break from staining my MIL's house with a game of baseball. I love that I got the ball smack dab in the middle of them!

Sunday, May 25th: The only picture I took all day was of my layout. But since I spent most of the afternoon scrapbooking, I think it's fitting.

Monday, May 26th: Jonah and Cameron playing catch together to warm up before Jonah's baseball game.

Thanks for looking!

Five things

that I am loving right now.

#1. That both of my boys are playing baseball this year. I love going to their games and cheering them on. So great to see them trying their best, having fun and not getting caught up in the whole competition/who won, who lost thing.

#2. That we finally had some nice weather last week and I was able to get outside and clean up my perenials beds. I love that I planted perenials when we moved in-- now my garden is full and I don't have to spend any money at the greenhouse (except for the tomato plants that I want to put it this week.)

#3. My new runners that I bought a couple of weeks ago at the Running Room. They are so comfortable and my knee doesn't hurt anymore. Yay!

#4. The fact that I've been running and really enjoying it. I managed to go from running 3 blocks and walking one, to running 8 blocks and walking one (thanks to some older men that were walking ahead of me one morning. I was too embarassed to pass them and then start walking, so I passed them and kept running, surprising myself with how far I could get. )

#5. The fact that this girl isn't afraid of this dog anymore. The girl is my daughter, Sage. The dog is my SIL's, who lives at my MIL's farm. Up until this weekend, Sage was too afraid to be outside if Coco wasn't tied up. But then, when we were staining the house on Saturday, suddenly, they'd become friends. A good thing.

Another layout

I got another layout done last night. This one was inspired by Marcy's "seeing spots" challenge and by a Jamie Waters layout.

I used Bazzill cardstock, a My Mind's Eye title die cut and a bunch of My Mind's Eye papers that Mary and Marlo brought back with them from Fargo. (It's so nice to have friends that share their awesome finds with me! :) )

A couple more layouts

I got two more layouts made for the crop today (in between helping stain my MIL's house.)

I made this one using patterned paper scraps and a few embellishments from my stash-- so nice to use some "old stuff"!

I saw this Basic Grey pp with the giraffes & hearts and knew that I had to buy it to use for this picture of Sage & I. I used Liz's sketch and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Idea to note: I didn't have a "g" from my foam letters, so I cut the end off of a "q" and the top off of a "9" and put them together to make a "g". I place the flower slightly over the letter to hide where they connect.

Challenges

Here are my layouts for the online crop at MSS this weekend.

I called my challenge may/december romance: use one of your newest pieces of patterned paper with a piece of patterned paper that is at least one year old. Here's my layout:

And I started this next layout with the intention of using it for Liz's sketch, but it ended up going in a very different direction. But I'm happy with it nonetheless:

(Those dinosaurs from Basic Grey are just too cute!)

I thought I'd start another layout, but it's getting pretty late. If it's raining tomorrow, I might be able to get some more done. If not, I'll be helping paint at my MIL's.

Thanks for looking!

Online Crop

My Scrap Shoppe is hosting an online crop this weekend! :)

It starts tonight (Friday) at 8pm, but there's already an early bird challenge posted, if you want to get started during the day.

So, you can click here to join in on the fun. I'll be posting my layouts from the crop later.

Field Trip

Jonah's kindergarten class went to the Morden Fossil Museum for their field trip yesterday. Jonah was beyond excited. He loves dinosaurs and when I asked him which shirt he wanted to wear, he replied: "Stegosaurus!" (Of course, geez, Mom...)

So, thanks to my friend Susan, who watched Sage for me, I was able to tag along.

(I am a total field trip junkie-- I could happily go on all of them! :) )

Here's Jonah at the entrance to the museum

and "digging" for fossils.

They got a tour of the museum

and Jonah posed with Bruce, the mosasaur. After seeing this creature, Jonah informed me that he would be Bruce for the rest of the day!

Such a fun trip-- so fun to get to watch my child enjoy something so much (even if there weren't any triceratops or stegosauruses there! ;) )

Scenes from our trip to the zoo

Yesterday, we drove to Winnipeg and while Cameron painted my mom's den, I took the kids to the zoo.

It was a great time-- perfect weather and the kids were awesome. :)

And, I took over 200 pictures!! Crazy, I know, but the kids kept saying: "Mom, get a picture of that! Did you take a picture of that?" So, being the great mom that I am, I obliged. ;) I managed to weed it down to less than 100 and here are my favourites:

The kids were super about posing for some group shots for me:

Here are some highlights of the afternoon:

And, I just couldn't say no when then kids asked for pony rides (I'm such a pushover!) But hey, anything for a good photo op. ;)
