Happy Valentine's Day

Lots of good things today:

Giving Cameron & the kids their valentines chocolates this morning (& getting such a good picture of these three!),

baking a chocolate cake with Sage and enjoying the cookies we made yesterday,

coming home from piano lessons to find six red roses from Cameron, having Susan & her kids come over for playgroup this morning, & getting to scrapbook a little this afternoon.

(Totally makes up for almost having a head-on collision this morning & burning my home made Tony Roma ribs this evening. ;) )

Hope you enjoyed your day with the ones you love!

Project 366, week 6

Here are my photos of the day for the past week:

Tuesday, February 5th: Trying for a good foot shot of Sage.

Wednesday, February 6th: Shopping at the Coop (5% off day)

Thursday, February 7th: Took the photo for my blog banner.

Friday, February 8th: Scrapbooking at my church with friends. I actually took this photo of my friend, Susan, with her camera, which she drove home to get for me when I remembered that I hadn't taken a photo that day and had forgotten my camera. Such a great friend! :)

Saturday, February 9th: Cameron & Sage playing the kazoo together.

Sunday, February 10th: our annual library fundraiser at church.

Monday, February 11th: my uber-snuggly Sage-a-roo.

Which one is your favourite?

Weekend Creative

Well, I finished my punch collage for Ali Edward's Weekend Creative prompt. I added some rub-on words. I was going to do all blue (from papers in my scrapbox), but the frame sits on a shelf in my kitchen against a green wall, so I added some green to tie it in. (Gotta match, gotta match... ;) )

I used Bazzill Cardstock, Scenic Route, Rhonna Farrer, Tinkering Ink, K&Company, Kate Teague and Basic Grey patterned paper and a Scenic Route rub-on. Thanks for looking!

Unexpected

I didn't realize that lent was upon us until I spoke to my mom on the phone the other day and she mentioned that it was Shrove Tuesday. I remembered that we always had pancakes for supper on Shrove Tuesday, so I decided to make them for supper for my kids.

Other than that, my only "plans" for lent were to give up purchasing scrapbooking supplies (because after a fairly decent spree at MSS in January, I promised Cameron that I wouldn't buy any more supplies until after Easter) and to give up sugar (because, frankly, I'd like to lose weight.) Not so much spiritual sacrifices-- even though I know both of these will be tough.

Then, when I was looking at blogs yesterday, I came upon Molly Irwin's blog and the art journal that she created last year for lent.

AND I WAS INSPIRED.

I decided to create an art journal (of sorts) during the lenten season this year. I want to include Bible verses that have spoken to me and things that I've learned on different spiritual topics, but also share my beliefs and things that are important to me. I'm quite excited about this. It's my first attempt at an art journal.

(But I've decided up front that it will not necessarily be an every day thing, because right now, that's too unrealistic for me. I'm just going to create pages when I can.)

So here is the title page that I made yesterday afternoon:

The green letters are Scrapworks and are adhered to a 6x6 piece of thick clear Hambly. The next page is Bazzill cardstock, Scenic Route and Bo Bunny patterned paper and Heidi Swapp clock stamps.

And here is my first entry. We had a women's night at our church on Tuesday evening and the speaker, Beth Moore, had a lot of good things to say. I summarized some of what she said here, and added some of my own insights.

Thanks for looking!

Project 366, week 5

Here are my photos from the past week:

Tuesday, January 29th: Jonah (love that smile!)

Wednesday, January 30th: The only pictures I took all day were of some scrapbooking layouts.

Thursday, January 31st: Cameron.

Friday, February 1st: Austin & Ethan Rob.

Saturday, February 2nd: Jonah, aiming his hockey stick gun at me.

Sunday, February 3rd: We took the kids ice skating after lunch and I remembered my camera. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring a memory card along! :(

Monday, February 4th: Cameron, reading to Jonah & Sage.

And a few more...

So, I'm still waiting on the journaling (from Cameron) to finish another layout with the February post (see following post.) I'm glad he didn't just write it off without putting any thought into it, but we're going on two weeks... Which is really funny, because since I've asked him to write the journaling for one of my layouts, I've noticed that when he asked me to do something for him, he expects it done right away. Huh. Interesting. ;)

So, before I got the February kit, I had bought two sheets of Scenic Route patterned paper, because it was just so very cute. One of the sheets came in the kit and it used it on a few layouts. Now, I was staring at the extra sheet I bought and debating on which side I should use, when I realized that I could use both sides at once. So here are the back to back layouts that I made with it:

And with the end of January, I thought that I should figure out what I wanted to do with the pictures that I'd taken every day for Project 366. I knew from the beginning that I would want to print them out, but the question was how. In collages in Picasa? A mini-book?

I was inspired by my friend Heather M. and the photo-a-day blog that she started for Project 366. Half of the screen is the "photo of the day" and the other half is a calendar for the month, with a photo in each square. I liked the look of calendar so much that I made this:

I'm going to have it printed as an 8x10 and then make one for each month and store them in an 8.5x11 binder.

Hope you're having a good weekend!

Some Scrapbooking Stuff to Share...

I got an email yesterday from Creating Keepsakes magazine, requesting one of my summer layouts for publication in their June 2008 issue! Very exciting!

And, here are the layouts that I created with the beautiful February kit from My Scrap Shoppe:

(This one was inspired by my talented friend, Heather M.)

This last one also doubles as our DT challenge for February. Our theme: love (or unlove.) I chose love. At first, I was just going to call the layout something like: Evidence of love in 2007. But then I thought of this verse in Colossians : "Love is what binds us together in perfect harmony" (3:14), which I've wanted to use on a layout for a while. The Love, Elsie patterned paper with the music notes worked perfectly.

I have one more layout to post with the February kit, but I'm waiting on Cameron for the journaling. :)
