Five for Friday

1. Okay, I always know we are approaching the end of summer
when it's time for our town's annual Corn & Apple Festival

Sage and I took Lucy for a walk yesterday afternoon and watched
as Stephen Street was being set up for the fun and exciting weekend.
We'll be enjoying the rides, food, parade and running into friends all weekend long!

2. So, my week started off with this fabulous news on Monday:

I was the grand prize winner of the third session of Camp Create at MFT stamps!
I still can't believe it!
Since Sage participated along with me, she gets to pick out a set of stamps
(& then maybe she won't grumble so much about my collection -- LOL!)

3. I got my haircut on Wednesday:

She cut off quite a bit and I'm loving it!
A nice, fresh cut for fall.

Sage took this photo of me and I returned the favour:

Isn't she lovely?
And look at that tan -- she spent a lot of the summer in the sun!

4. I mentioned earlier this summer that I was playing slo-pitch
(& then keeping score when I sprained my wrist).
Well, for the past two Wednesdays, I also got to do some umping.

That's me in the white hoodie.
Sage took the photo -- she sat in the stands reading her book while I umped.

And she got this action shot of me displaying my catlike reflexes as
I got out of the way of the runner. ;)

In other sporting news.... I was asked by my instructor
last night at taekwondo to become Assistant Instructor for our club!

5. And lastly, because I love sharing my cards on my blog...
A friend recently requested some thank you cards and
said she loved feathers, so I made her four of these cards,
using my MISTI and the ColourQ Challenge #356:

Here's my card:

I stamped the feathers from PTI's Feather Finery using Altenew Coral Berry,
MFT Plum, PTI Aqua Mist, Hawaiian Shores, Simply Chartreuse & Ripe Avocado.
I stamped the sentiment using a Simon Says Stamp stamp set.

Have a great weekend!

Five for Friday

1. Happy National Scrapbook Day!
This is my second post for today, as I'm playing along with
Bazzill Basics' National Scrapbook Day Blog Hop.
Click here to see what I created for it.

2. Sage & I had a bit of a girl's weekend last weekend.
We drove to Winnipeg Friday evening and met my mom for supper.
Then we hit Old Navy and the mall to do some shopping.
We slept over at my mom's and on Saturday, we competed & volunteered
at our Premier Club Championships.

We both competed in patterns.
I got a gold medal and Sage got a bronze.
I judged patterns and did some refereeing for sparring.
Sage volunteered as a runner and did some corner judging for sparring as well.

After the tournament, we went to see Cinderella in the theatre.
(This is a secret though, so don't tell my boys! Shh!)

After supper at the food court, we stopped at Winner's on our way home.
It was really nice to spend some one on one time together!

3. Jonah made it safe and sound back from Banff.
I picked him up at 12:30am Monday morning.
He took lots of pictures at the Calgary Zoo and tons more of the mountains!

4.  We're going to go and see Austin tonight in his high school musical:
Annie Get Your Gun.
He plays Tommy.
It opened on Wednesday & I can't wait to see it!

5. I have a card to share for Reverse Confetti Sketch for You to Try #24:

For my card, I was inspired by this image that I found on Pinterest
to created some watercolored popsicles.
Isn't it pretty?
I decided to use the smooshing technique with PTI's raspberry fizz &
Wplus9's sweet gelato inks and diecut my cardstock using

Here's my card:

I smooshed my ink onto two pieces of cardstock.
I diecut my popsicles from the one (using Let's Chill Confetti Cuts)
and stamped my sentiment (from Sweet Thing) in black on the other.

The patterned paper I used is from Becky Higgins Project Life Southern Weddings.

Be sure to head on over to the Reverse Confetti blog to see
the other designers' takes on the sketch and to play along, if you'd like.

Oh, and before I go...

Five for Friday

 1. Austin's school is having a Work-a-thon this afternoon. Because Austin was slow on the draw to find somewhere to work, he's working for me. LOL! So far, he's dusted and vaccuumed and washed the floor on his hands and knees. Currently he's washing window. What a great day!

2. Jonah, Sage & I are testing tomorrow for taekwondo. Jonah and Sage are testing for their 1st poom (junior black belts) and I'm testing for my 2nd Dan. I have butterflies in my stomach when I think about it, but I'm thinking it will go well.

3. After the test, we're having Austin's birthday party. He's invited a few friends over for pizza and then we're going to go see Iron Man 3. I can't wait... it should be fun!

I asked Austin what kind of cake he wanted me to make... and he picked a dragon. He gave me a picture to work with and this is what I made this morning:

He was thrilled with it, which made me happy.

4. I wanted to share a challenge that I'm making for myself...

The past couple of years, I've participated with the Sketchbook classes taught by Kelly Purkey. Well, there wasn't a new sketchbook class this year, so I decided to purchase the Create: Sketches book from Northridge Publishing. I'm challenging myself to create a layout and a card using each sketch in the book, starting with Sketch 1.

Here's the layout I made, using some Bazzill cardstock and Crate Paper patterned paper, stickers and diecuts. I cut the title out on my Silhouette.

I used my new PTI Big Ticket Basics stamp and die to make this embellishment, to which I added some PTI buttons and twine. I stamped on the sticker with my date stamp and Versafine ink.

Here's my journaling, which explains my thrill about dunking Austin in the dunk tank last Canada Day.

5. And Jonah's invited to a birthday party tomorrow, so here's the card that I made for his friend, using the sketch. I used some Crate Paper, Echo Park and My Mind's Eye patterned paper, as well as a PTI stamp (from Boy Basics: Game On) and the banner die from Get a Handle on it.

Sunday Evening Post

Whew! What a weekend! It seems like we've hardly been home....

We had our Taekwondo Club Championship yesterday in Winnipeg and I'm so proud of how well my kids did! They each brought home a medal (for which I'm super happy for them!), but more than how well they competed, I'm so proud of the great attitudes they had and what a fabulous job they did volunteering. All three volunteered as runners, Sage & Jonah volunteered as time keepers and Austin corner judged sparring and got to referee as well. They were all just so on task and helpful.... it made me very proud!

So, this morning, before church, I made some cards to tell them this. For each one, I used Crate Paper patterned paper and journaling cards/tags, my PTI Wonderful Words Additions stamp set and this week's Make It Monday: Embossed Alpha Die Cuts.

Here's the one I made Austin. I added some PTI cardstock (vintage cream, ocean tides) and button twine. I used my PTI modern uppercase alphabet dies with black cardstock and heat embossed them-- it gave them a nice, glossy finish.

For Sage's card, I diecut the Wonderful Words "you" die and heat embossed it. I also added some Crate Paper chipboard flowers.

And here's Jonah's card. I used the same dies that I used on Austin's card, but this time in harvest gold.

When I gave Jonah is card and he read it, he said it brought tears to his eyes! So sweet!

I also managed to make a quick layout Friday evening, also using this week's Make It Monday: Embossed Alpha Die Cuts with my Wonderful Words stamps and die. I used My Mind's Eye patterned paper, a Crate Paper sticker (for the date) and PTI buttons and twine.

I heat embossed the stamped portion of my title with white embossing powder and the diecut portion with clear embossing powder.

Well, I feel as if I could use a few days off to rest from my weekend, how about you?

Six for Saturday

1. I participated as an official in the Iron Fist Taekwondo Tournament last Saturday, which means I was a pattern judge, a corner judge and a referee. It was a very full day, where I learned a lot. Here are a few photos. Please don't mind my outfit (it's what the officials wear-- I felt like I should have been asking people: "May I take your order please?") or my hair. Yeah. I know. I don't look that great with a ponytail, but it's regulation.

2. I've succeeded in making it to the June without any sugar or deep-fried foods! It's definitely getting easier as time goes on.... just because I don't want to break my streak. ;) The good news is, it's totally paying off! I went to the clinic this week and weighed myself.... and I've lost 15 lbs!

3. We went to Jonah & Sage's school on Thursday evening for their annual Spring Concert. They combine the concert with a bar-b-q fundraiser and carnival. Jonah and Sage both had responsibilities.... Jonah had a 30 minute shift in the game his class was running and Sage took a shift in her class' booth where she sold rice krispie cake. They both sang with their classes and Jonah performed with the voluntary choir, too. It was a sad evening, as their music teacher is resigning and moving to B.C. We're all so sorry to see her go.... she is fabulous!

I dislike face painting, so Sage asked if she could get her arm painted instead.

Here are Sage & Jonah with their teacher. It was an emotional evening with quite a few tears.

4. This weekend's forecast is for sunshine and a high of 25°C. I'm planning on wearing a tank top. ;)

5. I made another card this week, using this week's Make It Monday at Papertrey Ink: pocket cards. I made this one for one of my kids' former teachers.... just to let her know I'm thinking of her.

I used PTI cardstock (rustic white, sweet blush), buttons, twine and stamps (rosie posie, botanical silhouettes). The patterned paper is My Mind's Eye.

Here's the note card that pulls out.

With the card, I also included a plate of homemade baking powder cinnamon buns.

6. Today, our town is having its annual Block Party downtown. This year, our taekwondo club was asked to participate by doing a demonstration, so we'll be going to that shortly. I'm hoping I'll get to do some board breaking. :) Wish me luck!

Premier Championships 2012

I wanted to share a few photos from our tournament on Saturday...

After a competitor line up and an officials meeting, we started with patterns, beginning with the black belts. My group was suppose to be a group of four, but two competitors didn't show up, so we joined another group (the teenagers) and formed a group of six.

Then the colour belt & poom patterns...

Then we started with the black belt breaking (I only broke one board out of my three) and poom belt breaking (Austin broke his first board with an axe kick!)

And then we started sparring, beginning with the lower belts and moving up... Here are some photos of Sage (the only sparring competitor from our family-- so proud of her!)

Even though we all tried our best, Jonah was the only one from our family to bring home a medal... a bronze for patterns!

And I wanted to share a layout I made using Sketch #7 from Sketchbook 4 and some photos of Austin from the tournament...

I used AC cardstock (12x12), Echo Park patterned paper, Webster's letter stickers, My Mind's Eye, Pink Paislee & The Girl's Paperie decorative brads and PTI cardstock (aqua mist), impression plate (woodgrain), stamps (Grunge Me) & die (Seeing Stars).

Here's a close-up of the journaling, which explains the cryptic title...
