Watercolouring

I have some cards to share today for today's anniversary challenge at Papertrey Ink, which is to use a watercolour technique on your project.


I decided to combine a couple of my cards with the Day One challenge at Papertrey Ink, which was to use the DT's favourite projects as inspiration. For my first card, I decided to try my hand at Heather's first card and stamp flowers over the front of my card.

I used The Sweet Life, with sweet blush, hisbiscus burst & raspberry fizz ink for the blooms and spring moss & ripe avocado for the leaves. I dabbed some ink onto a stamp case, added some water with a paint brush and painted over my blooms and leaves to give a watercolour effect. The sentiment was added using TBF #12.

For my next card, I was inspired to use Turning a New Leaf with Beautiful Butterflies, because of Cristina's last card in the first column:

I stamped my butterflies in sweet blush, hibiscus burst & raspberry fizz ink and then I flipped the stamps over and stamped them again in the same colours, but stamping off once first. I also stamped off when I stamped my leaves. I swiped some hibiscus burst ink along the sides before matting it on some hibiscus burst cardstock and adding some stitching.

For my next card, because I still had my friend's YOF:Roses, I stamped the blooms and leaves in versafine and heat embossed them with clear embossing powder. I also did the same with my sentiment from communique sentiments. Then, I pressed ink (sweet blush, scarlet jewel, ripe avocado) onto my stamp press, added some water with a paint brush and painted my stamped images.

For my last two cards, I was inspired by Heather's card and tag today and decided to use the same technique, but with my wonderful words stamps and dies. I pressed ink (enchanted evening, pure poppy, hawaiian shores, canyon clay and ripe avocado) onto my stamp press and added water with a paint brush and painted on some strokes. Then I ran my cardstock through my Big Shot with my happy die. I backed it in simply chartreuse cardstock and added some vellum, diecut with the double-ended banner die and stamped in versafine and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Some stitching finishes it all off.

So for my last card, I used the "happy" that I'd diecut, along with some Crate Paper patterned paper, sweet blush and white cardstock, half & half dies and some buttons.

Six more cards....

I made another six cards this afternoon for today's challenge at Papertrey Ink, which is to create a project using one of the colour schemes that Nichole posted on her blog.

Well, I have to admit that out of all of the crafty challenges there are, my least favourite are the colour ones. I'm not sure if it's because I prefer to start with patterned paper when I craft or not, but I always find the colour challenges, well, challenging and I don't always like the end result.

So, I decided that for today's challenge, I would combine challenges with the colour challenges in the hopes of having more success.

For my first card, I used or Sketch 153 from Got Sketch?, along with Colour Scheme No. 1 from Nichole's blog:

I used some Crate Paper patterned paper and chipboard, along with some Papertrey Ink vintage cream cardstock and a sentiment from Wreath from all Seasons.

For the rest of my cards, I let myself be inspired by the PTI design team and created cards based on some of their favourites for the Day One challenge at Papertrey Ink. For this next card, I was inspired by Ashley's card (first card in the second column)...

... and I used Colour Scheme No. 2:

I used PTI cardstock (white, new leaf, enchanted evening), Happy Day stamps and dies and some PTI buttons. The ribbon was a gift from Hanne, an online friend.

For this next card, I was inspired by Dawn's card (third card in the first column)...

... and Colour Scheme No. 3:

I decided to use my PTI Chevron Stripes stamp set, along with a sentiment from Boy Basics: Game On. I added a Pink Paislee mistable star that I inked with Blueberry Sky. (I really wasn't happy with how this one turned out, but Sage said it was fine.)

Once again, I was inspired by one of Ashley's cards (second card in the first column)...

... as well as Colour Scheme No. 4:

I liked how Ashley had stamped the top flowers from The Sweet Life on patterned paper on her card, so I decided to do the same, but used The Sweet Life for the focal image, too. The sentiment is a Think Big Favourites stamp. The patterned paper I used is My Mind's Eye.

For my fifth card, I was inspired by another one of Dawn's cards (card in the column)...

... as well as Colour Scheme No. 5:

I loved how Dawn had stamped on her tag, raised some elements and stamped on the patterned paper behind her tag as well. I decided to do the same, but once again using The Sweet Life, Tag Sale #7 and TBF #12 (this is my favourite card from today!)

And lastly, I was inspired by Heather's first card in the first column...

... and Colour Scheme No. 6:

I love Heather's stamped images on the front of her card, but when I was digging through my scraps, I found this Crate Paper favourite of mine and decided to make my card using the same design as Heather's with the ribbon and sentiment near the bottom.

Six for Sunday

I got six cards made today.... one before church, four this afternoon and one after supper. I love crafty days like today! :)

First up is the card that I made this morning. I was inspired by Jessica Witty's card for the Day One challenge at Papertrey Ink (second card in the second column).

I was inspired to pair my Happy Hexagons coverplate with my Lovely Layers dies. I used my coverplate as an impression plate on some Crate Paper patterned paper. I added more Crate goodness (paper and brad) to create my bloom. The banner was created using a trimmed down tag slae 5 tag and stamps from Framed Out #1.

Next up are five cards that I made for Papertrey Ink's anniversary challenge for today: using the five sketches that Nichole posted on her blog.

I decided to modify the sketch slightly to accomodate six squares instead of three. I used my PTI alpha-blocks die to cut the squares from the Bo Bunny patterned paper. On the cardstock behind the patterned paper, I stamped some Funky Florals bursts in summer sunrise, aqua mist, enchanted evening, hawaiian shores and orange zest. The sentiment is from a Simon Says stamp set, which I used for the Love is in the Details online crop challenge to make a Valentine's card without using "lovey" words.

I used some more Crate Paper on this card, as well as my PTI Lovely Layers dies and my fabulous frames dies. The sentiment is a PTI Botanical Silhouettes stamp and I added some yellow baker's twine. The front panel is adhered to the cardstock using dimensional adhesive. Oh, see that brad? I made that using my SU! build a brads and a 1/2" circle punch.

February is Teacher Appreciation Month at our school and tomorrow, I'm bringing some treats for the staff for their coffee break. I thought I'd use Sketch No. 3 to make a thank you card for the staff. I used some PTI white and hawaiian shores cardstock for the base, stamping a sentiment from Happy Trails. I used some Crate Paper patterned paper as well as a scrap of patterned paper that I found in my stash that had numbers on it. I stamped some pencils from Happy Trails along the top piece of patterned paper and then added a star and Echo Park diecut and brad over the seam. I diecut the star twice using PTI's Seeing Stars dies for this week's Make It Monday at Papertrey Ink: the Diecut Double Up.

For Sketch No. 4, I decided to use an embossing technique for a Love is in the Details online crop challenge. I stamped by PTI Beautiful Butterflies stamps with versamark and heat embossed them with white embossing powder. Then, I diecut a rectangle with one of my PTI Tag Sale 7 dies from a post-it note. I used this to make a mask so I could add some Hibiscus Burst and Raspberry Fizz inks with my Tim Holtz blending tool

The sentiment is also from Beautiful Butterflies. The patterned paper is Bo Bunny.

And lastly, here's the card that I made for Sketch No. 5, using The Sweet Life stamps and dies, layered over  some Bo Bunny patterned paper. I diecut the flowers from sweet blush cardstock and then stamped them with sweet blush, hibiscus burst and raspberry fizz. The leaves are diecut from some Crate Paper patterned paper and stamped with spring moss and ripe avocado inks.The sentiment is from Pretty Peonies.

A few projects...

First up, Papertrey Ink's anniversary challenge for today is to find some inspiration on Pinterest and use that to create some packaging or a tag.

I found this photo:

And, using it as inspiration, I created this tag, using my PTI tag sale #5 die and In the Meadow and Falling Leaves stamp sets:

Next up is a layout that I made for the online crop that my LSS, Love is in the Details, where the challenge was to scrapbook my BFF.

I used some Crate Paper patterned paper and chipboard accent to scrapbook the photos that I'd printed of my friend, Val and I at our weekend at the Women of Faith conference this past fall.

I used my PTI tag sale #5 die, along with my upper and lowercase block alpha bet dies to create my title, using this week's Make It Monday at Papertrey Ink: the Diecut Double Up.

 I used PTI Year of Flowers: Roses stamps with Crate Paper patterned paper for yesterday's anniverary challenge at Papertrey Ink, which was to use a Year of Flowers stamp on a card. The brads I added are Echo Park.

And my journaling pulls out at the bottom (I used my PTI Half & Half die on this.)

So, when I showed Sage the layout I'd made for the BFF challenge, she was affronted that I hadn't chosen to do a layout about her and me. So, I made this layout:

Again, I used some Crate Paper goodies. I was inspired by Danielle's patterned paper pocket that she shared for her favourites for the Day One challenge at Papertrey Ink (bottom of the first column).

Again, I used this week's Make It Monday at Papertrey Ink: the Diecut Double Up on the front of my pocket, using PTI LL:oval dies and the block alphabet dies.

 I love how Danielle often writes her journaling on patterned paper, so I decided to do the same:

And lastly, I created a card for the Love is in the Details online crop challenge to combine alphabet fonts on a card. So I used this week's Make It Monday at Papertrey Ink: the Diecut Double Up (again!), to diecut some PTI modern uppercase alphabet dies, along with a PTI mat stack #4 diecut. I also used some new Bo Bunny patterned paper, a Pink Paislee chipboard heart and an AC brad.

The alphabet chipboard stickers are My Mind's Eye that I inked with some PTI hibiscus burst ink to darken them a little.

PTI Anniversary Contest #4

I made two cards this afternoon for today's anniverary challenge at Papertrey Ink, which was to use a Year of Flowers stamp on a card. I don't own any of these stamps, but my friend, Susan, does, so I borrowed her Roses set for the challenge.

For my first card,  I stamped the flower and leaves on rustic cream cardstock and fussy cut them out. I layered them over some Crate Paper patterned paper and stamped a sentiment from Lovely Layers. The buttons and twine finish it off.

This next card turned out very differently than what I first started out to make. I was planning on making a one layer card, but messed up the white space on my cardstock. So I cut out my blooms and layered them on some PTI patterned paper. I added a stamped sentiment and frame (from Pretty Peonies) and some buttons.

For my blooms, I heat embossed the stamped images with white embossing powder and used some PTI berry sorbet and limeade ice ink with a Tim Holtz blending tool to colour them in.
