MIM #23 -- part two

For my friend, Val's, birthday, I made her this card, using this week's Make It Monday at Papertrey Ink: Pockets with Edger Dies. However, I wanted to come up with a cool way to display the card with the gift (as I thought it would be way to bulky to fit in an envelope), so here's what I came up with, also using this week's MIM technique.

Now, as I said earlier, I don't own any edger dies, so I used a Mat Stack #5 die, along with some My Mind's Eye patterned paper and made a large pocket that I adhered to the outside of my kraft gift bag.

MIM #23 -- part one

Today is my wonderful friend, Val's, birthday and I made her this card, using this week's Make It Monday at Papertrey Ink: Pockets wtih Edger Dies.

Now, I don't own any edger dies, so I decided to use my Mat Stack # 5 die to make this card:


I used Papertrey Ink cardstock, twine, Mat Stack #5, Tag Sale #3 & Beautiful Blooms II dies, Botanical Silhouettes and Communique Sentiments stamps sets. The patterned paper, sticker and brad are all My Mind's Eye.

Another Triple Threat Challenge

... is up at MSS today. :)

This month's Triple Threat Challenge was to create a layout including:
1. ribbon (Flo)
2. flowers (me)
3. a pocket (Marcy)

Here's the layout I made, using a photo of Sage that I'd taken on her recent field trip to the Royal Canadian Mint:


I used Bazzill cardstock, The Girl's Paperie patterned paper, some green ribbon that was in my stash, Pink Paislee chipboard letters, Hero Arts stamp & bling, a Basic Grey fabric brad and a MME decorative brad.

For the pocket, I cut a slit in my patterned paper to make it, stitching along the sides and the bottom:

Self-timer shot #1

One day last week, I brought my tripod along with me to the beach and took this photo of Austin and me, reading our books from the Harry Potter series.

Then, this weekend, I printed out the photo and made this layout, using this week's Papertry Ink's Make It Monday #22: Multi-colour stamping with ink refills. I converted the photo to black and white, because the only reinkers I have are SU! ones: Kiwi Kiss, Riding Hood Red, Chocolate Chip and Baja Breeze-- none of which coordinate with Austin's orange shirt. ;)


I used Papertrey Ink cardstock (simply chartreuse and vintage cream), Text Style I stamp set (which I stamped repeatedly over the whole background with Versamark), twine and Tag Sage #3 die. I also used SU! & MME patterned paper and Pink Paislee letters. The little green number stickers are October Afternoon. The bookshelf stamp is Studio Calico.

I'm a Papertrey Princess!

Ever since I discovered the Papertrey Ink forum, I've been thinking about joining a blog group there. Well, this week, I noticed that the Papertrey Princesses had an opening, so I asked if I could join.

Here's my card for their latest challenge issued by Diane: create a card using just the outline of flowers.

At first, I didn't know what I was going to do, since I don't own any PTI flowers with an outline (oh! actually, as I typed this, I realized that the Flower Fusion set I have could have qualified! Oh well...) I remembered that when I'd gotten together with my friend, Susan, to stamp a couple of months ago, I'd played with her YOF: Roses set and I had stamped it three times on a piece of Aqua Mist cardstock, but had never made it into a card. So, I dug it out and used it to make this card:


I also made this card for this week's Papertry Ink's Make It Monday #22: Multi-colour stamping with ink refills.

I used PTI cardstock (Aqua Mist, Stamper's Select White), YOF: Roses, Tag Its #2, Postmarks & Botanical Silhouettes stamps sets, Tag Sale #3 die and twine. I also used a Hero Arts cling stamp & SU! patterned paper.

I picked up this "row of books" stamp at the other day MSS on the garage sale table. It's Studio Calico and I think it's really cool. When I saw it, the first thing I thought was how cool it would be to use it with this technique...


I used PTI cardstock (stamper's select white, pure poppy, dark chocolate), felt (simply chartreuse), Tag it's #2 stamp, Happy Trails stamp (sentiment) and Limitless Layers 1.75" scalloped circle die. The patterned paper is SU! and MME.

Another challenge layout...

So, after I posted this layout for Marcy's challenge to me to use three tags on a layout, Tara issued me two challenges:

1. Create a LO based on you and your proud accomplishments in life;
2. Create a LO using only stuff in your old stash, nothing from any of the new lines.

For the first one, I thought immediately of the photos I have of my black belt test. I had bought a sheet of Studio Calico patterned paper at the SSD scrappy garage sale over a year ago and have been saving it for these photos. So, knowing that, I was confident that I could combine both challenges into one layout:


I used Bazzill cardstock, Studio Calico patterned paper and Scenic Route letter stickers. I made the embellishment on the second page with PTI felt (black), cardstock (Smokey Shadow & Summer Sunrise)& dies: Mat Stack #1, Mat Stack #5 and Seeing Stars.

In need of a challenge....

... a scrapbooking challenge, that is. ;)

I've been making a lot of cards lately, but have had a harder time making layouts. With the MIM challenges at PTI, I have made some layouts, but they often lend themselves more to cards.

So, at MSS, I posted the challenge for someone to give me a challenge to get my mojo going.

Marcy suggested that I made a layout using three tags.

So, I made this layout:


I used Bazzill & PTI cardstock, October Afternoon & Crate Paper patterned paper, OA & Pink Paislee cards and a PTI stamp from the Boy Basics: Game On set.

I love that Jonah willingly (ahem!) wrote out his list on the card.

Thankful for each new day

I wanted to share the layout I made for Challenge #3 at Scrapping Everyday Miracles. We were challenged to create a layout featuring one of the everyday miracles we received everyday: a new day. The scrap twist: include sewing on your page.

I was so fortunate to be able to include some stickers from SRM stickers, one of our sponsors for July.


This layout is going in my thankful album. I used Papertrey Ink cardstock (kraft), button and a Beautiful Blessings stamp. I also used American Crafts thickers, Crate Paper patterned paper and of course, a SRM sticker.

A couple of cards....

I wanted to share a couple of cards that I made recently for my niece, Heidi.

This first one I made to congratulate her from graduating from high school this week. I was inspired to make it using the WACCCKY challenge at A Passion for Papertrey.


I also used Papertrey Ink cardstock (vintage cream, plum pudding) and Think Big Favourites #5 and Happy Trails stamp sets. The patterned paper I used is Crate Paper and the gems are Hero Arts.

Heidi is leaving next week to go to Germany for Bible School, so I also made her this card, using

Canada Day Five for Friday

1. I took my annual Canada Day photo of the kids on our front steps this morning, wearing their new tees. We were hoping to head to the beach for the Canada Day celebrations there and then to Winkler for their Canada Day street carnival, but it's raining, so we'll see what works out with the weather.

2. Yesterday was the last day of school for the kids. Yay!




I tired to get some of them both in the air at the same time, but their timing was a little off! Oh well, adorable nonetheless...

3. We also got their report cards and I was very pleased with how well they all did! Such a great note on which to start off the summer....

4. I made some "thank you, teacher" cards for their teachers. Here are two of them. (The third one is here.)


I used PTI cardstock (Pure Poppy) and Happy Trails stamp set. The patterned paper is Cosmo Cricket and the baker's twine is My Mind's Eye.

5. Last night, we went with our friends, Larry & Val, to go see Casting Crowns in concert.

They are hands down my favourite band and I was so excited that we were able to get tickets to the sold out show! We had great seats and the concert far exceded my expectations-- a great night!

MIM #20

I wasn't sure if I'd get a chance to play along with Papertrey Ink's Make it Monday this week. The technique featured this week was reverse masking and looking at my stamps, I didn't think I had anything that would work.

Then, I got my PTI orders in the mail and decided that my new Postmarks set would work very nicely for making some stamps with this technique.

I made this two cards last night, after my family had left. We'd had such a great time yesterday together, especially at the mini-golf course that my brothers treated my family to. So I wanted to make them each a thank you card, to go along with the copies of photos I'm giving them.

Both cards are similar and made with the same products: PTI kraft cardstock, Mendhi Medalion stamp set, Postmarks stamp set and Think Big Favourites #5.

PTI June Blog Hop

Five for Friday

A quick post today to say five things that have "made my day" this week:

1. Yesterday, I (reluctantly) volunteered in Austin's school for the morning. I'd been dreading it a little, but it actually turned out to be a good morning.

2. While I was there, one of the students in my group asked if I knew her sister (who attends the high school.) When I said that I did, she said: "She says that you're cool." How sweet was that?! That is definitely not something I hear very often (although, I know that the kids are thinking it, of course! ;) )

3. On Wednesday, I was the highest ranking at tae kwon do and led the class (a first for me.) I was told be several members afterwards that I'd done a good job.

4. This post on the Papertrey Ink Forums totally made me smile. The question was asked "Who's scrapbooking style do you admire?" and someone said me!

5. My brothers and their families are coming out today with my mom for the weekend! I can't wait to see them.

Graduation cards

I wanted to make some graduation cards for a few of the students that I know that are graduating from high school this week. I decided for the sake of time, to make them all the same.

I was inspired by a card on Nichole Heady's blog. The school colours are black and red, so I thought I'd incorporate them into the cards.


I used Papertrey Ink cardstock (Stamper's Select White & Smokey Shadow), Mat Stack #1 stamps and die & Tag Its #4 stamps.

I had put the cards I made on the piano until I had time to address them. Cameron saw them and asked if I could make two more for him to give. I decided to use some of my new PTI goodies that I got in the mail this week:


I used PTI cardstock (Stamper's Select White & Smokey Shadow), Happy Trails stamps, a Think Big Favourites #5 stamp & a Tag Its #4 stamp. I also used Crate Paper patterned paper and border sticker.
