10 projects in 10 days-- Day 10

For my last "10 projects in 10 days" post, I'm going to end off my little series with something a little different, but super fun nonetheless.

First some background information...

A couple of weeks ago, we were shopping in the city. We were at a toy store in the mall and Sage wanted to show me something that she would like. It was a carrying case for her Zhu-Zhu pets (toy hamsters that make noise and roll around) that looked like a house. The cost was almost $20, I think, but I just said what I usually say when she asks me for things like that: "You can make something like that." This comment got me out of having to buy her the Zhu Zhu village in Spring-- she came home and attached some boxes together to make her own. She's also made her own clothes for them. I love that she is so creative!

Well, she'd remmebered my comment from a couple of weeks ago and decided this week that we should work on it. So, we asked Austin for the shoebox his new runners came in and got to work.

Here's what we made:

This is the front of the shoebox, which was orange. We added a strip of PTI Smokey Shadow cardstock to cover the logo and added some windows and a door. The patterned paper for the door is SU! and we added a little gem for the doorknob.

Here's the inside of the box. We used chipboard for the floors and wall and covered the walls with patterned paper. Because the Zhu Zhu pets are fairly large, I didn't think making furniture would work so well, so we just made it two dimensional and atttached it to the walls. Here are some close ups...

The living room. The patterned paper is Crate and I made the couch with my trimmer, corner rounder and circle punch. I used some pop dots for added dimension.

I cut the frame for the photo with a PTI mat stack #1 die and the image in the middle is from Free Pretty Things for You. Sage also wanted them to have a TV, so made a flat screem out of PTI black and grey cardstock and edged it with PTI fresh snow ink.

The patterned paper in the kitchen is Fancy Pants. The fridge and stove are made with PTI black and white cardstock. I stamped the dials on the stove with a PTI stamp from the Grunge Me set.

I had so much fun making this room! The patterned paper is Fancy Pants. The dresser and bed are decorated with PTI Sweet Love stamps (& I used the same colour ink for all of them-- I'm not sure why they look like different colours in the photo) and I made the vase of flowers with the new PTI Iconic Images set.

In the upstairs bedroom, the patterned paper is Crate and Cosmo Cricket (the wood grain). I made the bookshelf with my Studio Calico stamp.

And that's it.

Thanks so much for stopping by to have a look!

OK--you have outdone yourself. What a great project. Your daughter will treasure this forever--so much better than just buying it at the store. I'm impressed that you used all the good stuff, too. Now, you'll have to take lots of pictures, and scrapbook it, too.
