Papertrey Ink February Blog Hop

Well, it's the 25th of the month, which means it's time for the Papertrey Ink Blog Hop.
This month's challenge was to use this photo as our inspiration:

Isn't it pretty?
Well, I'd like to say that my card this month came together easily, but that wouldn't be true...
I started over quite a few times!

My first idea was to do a smooshing technique on my background, but
I gave up on that after several failed attempts.
Then, I tried watercoloring my background with ink,
thinking that I'd cover it with some white butterfly diecuts, but that didn't work out either.
However, I did like how the butterflies looked layered over the watercolour,
so I started over and made this:

I used the PTI Life is Beautiful dies and watercolored the die underneath using
the inspiration photo for the colours.
Then, for my sentiment, I salvaged one of the "failed smooshing technique" panels
and diecut my Wonderful Words die from it.
I stamped my Wonderful Words Additions sentiment (inked all the way in PTI tropical teal
and half in Memento Lilac Posies).

I going to give this card to a friend of mine who's moving away.

Thanks for looking!

Gorgeous card Leigh!
Smooshing is definitely not easy...haven't been completely successful yet either with that technique.

Very pretty, Leigh! Wasn't this a fun inspiration piece? I like the multi-colored sentiment and, of course, the watercolored butterfly. I can't seem to stop watercoloring and smooshing lately. :)

So pretty. Love the colourful accents on the butterfly and the inked sentiment at the bottom. I agree the smoothing technique was tricky, but the effect is always a surprise!

Oh, it turned out beautiful, Leigh! I LOVE the bold graphic look you ended up with! The white on white butterfly is fabulous, and the watercoloring peekaboos are really fun and eye catching. The sentiment looks gorgeous, too. Nice and big and bold to match the butterfly. Love it!

Leigh, thinking butterfly and a watercolor background isn't all we share on this hop. I also had several attempts for the watercolor background. My attempts at smooshing were not successful. Although making this card may have taken longer than you anticipated, the end result is so beautiful! What a lovely card and sentiment for your friend.

No 'failed' smooshing, Leigh; rather, 'design innovation.' You already know I'm swooning over the butterfly. I'm sorry your friend is moving away; she'll love your card and miss, immensely, your friendship!
